Under the patronage of the President of the University of Shatrah, Prof. Dr. Basim Abdul-Hussein Jarallah, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, Prof. Dr. Imad Kadhim Yasser, the College's Psychological Counselling and Educational Guidance Unit organised a training workshop as part of the activities of University Psychological Counselling Week, entitled "The Impact of the Mobile Phone on Mental Distraction", on Sunday, 23 November 2025, in the College seminar hall.

The workshop was delivered by Prof. Dr. Imad Kadhim Yasser, who addressed the growing effect of smartphone use on students' concentration and daily productivity, in addition to a set of psychological and behavioural indicators associated with excessive phone use. He also explained the main cognitive manifestations associated with mental distraction and ways of reducing them.

Mr. Karrar Abd Atshan served as rapporteur of the workshop, highlighting mechanisms for time management and attention management, and the importance of promoting conscious digital behaviour within the university environment.

The workshop concluded with an interactive discussion session in which participants offered a number of contributions and questions focusing on the role of psychological counselling in supporting students and developing their mental concentration skills, amid praise for the attendance and organisation and for the importance of continuing such events to enhance student awareness
