The College of Education for Girls holds an educational awareness seminar entitled: (The Legal Nature of Voting).
Under the patronage of the President of the University of Shatrah, Prof. Dr. Basim Abdul-Hussein Jarallah,
and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Education for Girls, Prof. Dr. Afrah Abd Maktouf,
the College of Education for Girls held an educational awareness seminar entitled:
(The Legal Nature of Voting), at ten o'clock on Wednesday morning in the College's Discussion Hall.
The seminar was presented by:
Dr. Jin Yasser Hussein / faculty member in the Department of Qur'anic Sciences and Islamic Education
Asst. Lect. Siba Khudhair Yas / faculty member in the Department of Kindergarten.
The seminar came in support of the democratic process in Iraq and in preparation for the upcoming elections, aiming to consolidate democratic concepts among members of society, particularly academics and students, as the nucleus of social awareness and the makers of the future.
The seminar addressed several themes, most notably the legal nature of voting, presenting the scholarly opinions on its essence and legal basis, which fall into three trends:
1. Voting is a right of the citizen expressing his freedom to choose who represents him.
2. Voting is a national function performed by the citizen in service of the public good.
3. Voting is a legal capacity combining right and duty at the same time.
The seminar concluded that, in the modern era, voting is considered both a right and a function at the same time, being a democratic practice that embodies freedom and national responsibility together.
The seminar was attended by a number of the College's professors and a group of students, and included constructive discussions that stressed the importance of conscious participation in the electoral process and its role in strengthening the democratic path in Iraq
