The Department of Arabic Language at the College of Education for Girls organises an educational workshop on "The Role of Educational Counselling in Preserving the Cultural Identity of University Students"
Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Basim Abdul-Hussein Jarallah, President of the University of Shatrah,
under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Education for Girls, Prof. Dr. Afrah Abd Maktouf,
and in cooperation with the Head of the Department of Arabic Language, Assistant Professor Tayseer Qasim Atiya,
the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Education for Girls – University of Shatrah organised an educational workshop entitled:
"The Role of Educational Counselling in Preserving the Cultural Identity of University Students".
The workshop was presented by:
Lecturer Dr. Khalid Raheem Bayesh
and Lecturer Dr. Haider Ali Ifreet,
in the presence of a number of the College's faculty members and students.
The workshop highlighted the importance of educational counselling in consolidating students' cultural identity, as an identity derived from language, religion, values and social customs, which contributes to building a balanced personality capable of facing contemporary intellectual challenges.
The two lecturers also addressed the impact of modern globalisation – particularly secular-oriented tendencies – in attempting to weaken young people's cultural belonging, stressing the need to raise students' awareness of the concept of identity and to link it with responsible university conduct.
The workshop covered several themes, including:
The role of the Arabic language in shaping the cultural awareness of the university student
The impact of social values and traditions in protecting identity
The responsibility of the educational institution in counselling and guidance
Mechanisms for consolidating cultural belonging in the university environment
The workshop was marked by wide engagement from the participating students, who offered contributions and questions that enriched the discussion and helped clarify the impact of educational counselling in preserving students' intellectual and behavioural identity.
This workshop is part of a series of scientific and educational events organised by the Department of Arabic Language at the College, with the aim of enhancing students' cultural and ethical awareness and consolidating the values of belonging and identity amid the rapid intellectual changes of our contemporary surroundings.
